We had a table of family and friends to see Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Thomas Friedman receive the Washburn Award for enhancing public understanding of science at the Museum of Science tonight. The "Weston Fury Alums" included Mom, Dad, Sabrina, Damian, Howard & Robin Reisman, Rebecca and Dan Bryden, and Diane and Bill Asher.
Friedman's top 5 global problems? (1) Rising energy use as more people become wealthy, (2) Energy poverty, with 1/3 of the world's population without access to electricity; (3) Global "weirding" (climate fluctuations); (4) Petrodictatorships (the price of oil is inversely correlated with the freedom index); and (5) Loss of biodiversity. ALL of these problems would be ameliorated by E.T. (energy technology): the invention and development of cheap, abundant and safe energy.
